Inkjet Printers

Posted on 14:00 by Unknown
Top 5 Inkjet Multifunction Printers

Inkjet multifunction printers from Canon, Epson and HP are good additions to any office. A multifunction printer can do all sorts of jobs, from sending and receiving fax messages, making and receiving phone calls, to scanning and printing documents or pictures.

Here is the list of top 5 Inkjet Multifunction Printers

Canon Pixma MP500

This multifunction printer from Canon easily duplicates as a scanner and media card reader. The in-built media slot can read almost all digital camera memory card formats, and the PictBridge port allows you take prints directly from a compatible digital camera. It allows two-sided printing with its built-in duplexer that leaves the printed side to dry for a few seconds before it starts printing on the reverse.

Epson Stylus CX7800

Mainly aimed at photography market, Epsons Stylus CX7800 comes with options to scan slides and negatives; the three media slots that can read almost all of the digital camera memory card formats and the USB 2.0 port allows speedy transfer of image data from your PC. It is also PictBridge compatible. It uses a four pigment-based ink, which is touted to resist fading in the long run.

HP OfficeJet 7410 All-in-One

Priced at a premium, the HP OfficeJet 7410 has everything a small or a big office would ask for. Fax (both color and B/W), copying, photo printing, document printing and scanning tasks are handled well. Wireless networking, a duplexer that saves paper by printing on both sides, wide scanning area, 2.5-inch color LCD panel and blue tooth compatibility add to its attraction.

HP OfficeJet 7210 All-in-One

An All-in-One office assistant, the HP OfficeJet 7210 is with packed features, catering to home or small office needs. Multi-page copying is made easier with a 50-page automatic document feeder (ADF). It reads digital camera memory cards and is PictBridge enabled to facilitate printing directly from your camera. It does, however, lack a color display unit.

HP PSC 1610 All-in-One

Though priced minimally at $130, HP PSC 1610 All-in-One offers every utility a small office needs printer, copier and scanner. Though it is a bit slow, the prints are of high quality. You can expect standard printing and copying of office documents. It allows direct printing from a digital camera via PictBridge and the media card slots read all major digital camera memory card formats.

Replacing Laser Unit on Brother MFC 8500

Posted on 15:30 by Unknown

The toner laser drum assembly unit has a fairly long life cycle, as it lasts through 20,000 pages before it must be replaced. Even so, certain factors will affect its true usage limits. For example, the quality of the toner, the ambient temperature and paper type used most often in print jobs can either increase or decrease the average length of service. You will know when the laser unit's time is really up when the "CHANGE DRUM SOON" message appears on the control panel display and degraded quality is evident on your printouts.

Instructions

1) Open the front cover on the multifunction printer.

2) Remove the old laser unit.

3) Remove the new laser unit from its packaging.

4) Rock the laser unit from one side to the other six times so that the toner inside the cartridge is distributed evenly.

5) Pull the protective plastic part out from the new laser unit.

6) Insert the laser unit into the machine.

7) Close the front cover.

Recycle the used laser unit according to federal, state and city regulations.

How to Change the Ink Cartridges for the HP 5510

Posted on 15:30 by Unknown

The HP Officejet 5510 all-in-one printer uses two ink cartridges--black and tricolor--to print documents and images from a computer, scanned copy or fax. The cartridges rest in slots in an ink cartridge carriage inside the printer. Each cartridge unlocks from the carriage easily with nothing more than the gentle application of pressure to the front top of the cartridge, so changing an ink cartridge only requires that you unlock and pull out your low, empty or faulty cartridge, insert a new one and align the cartridges so that the 5510 can print clearly.

Instructions
  1. Turn on your HP 5510 printer. If the printer doesn't have paper in it, load the paper tray with paper.
  2. Grasp the handle of the carriage access door at the front of the printer and lift up slowly until the door rests in an open position and the carriage moves into view.
  3. Push down gently on the top front of the ink cartridge to unlock it. Pull the cartridge carefully from the slot and set it aside for disposal.
  4. Remove your replacement ink cartridge from its packaging. Grasp the pink tab on the cartridge. Pull it and the attached tape carefully from the copper contacts and ink nozzles on the back and bottom of the cartridge.
  5. Hold the ink cartridge in front of its slot--black (right) or tricolor (left)--with the label facing up and the copper contacts facing the empty slot.
  6. Shift the cartridge in your hand so that the back of the cartridge tilts up slightly and the cartridge front tilts down.
  7. Slide the tilted ink cartridge into the empty cartridge slot and then push it in until you feel it snap into place.
  8. Replace the other cartridge if needed. When finished, lower the carriage access door and wait for a print alignment page to print. If a page doesn't print automatically, wait for an alignment message on your printer's display and then press the "OK" button to print the page.
  9. Open the scanner lid and place the alignment page face down on the scanner with the top of the page edge-to-edge with the left side and front of the scanner glass. Close the lid and push the "OK" button. Wait for the "Alignment Complete" message, dispose of the alignment page and then begin printing as desired.

BIOS Upgrade

Posted on 06:29 by Unknown

Upgrade BIOS

Sometimes, especially when upgrading your PC, you may need to perform a BIOS upgrade in order to update your system to accept a new hardware part or to fix a bug. For the average Joe, this procedure is quite obscure. In this tutorial we will give step-by-step procedures on how to upgrade your system BIOS.

PLCC (Plastic Leaded Chip Carrier) and is used by current motherboards.

What is BIOS anyway? BIOS is a program stored inside the ROM memory of your motherboard. There are three programs stored there: BIOS, setup and POST. As they are physically stored in the same memory chip, the majority of users call setup and POST as “BIOS”, even though this is wrong, as they are three distinct programs. BIOS (Basic Input/Output System) teaches the system processor on how to deal with basic things, like how to access the hard disk drive and how to write text on screen. POST (Power On Self Test) is executed whenever you turn your PC on in order to test your system. It is in charge of that memory counting that happens every time your turn your PC on. And setup is that program that you call by pressing Del during POST (i.e., during memory counting) that is used to configure your motherboard.

So “BIOS upgrade” really means an upgrade on the programs stored on the motherboard ROM memory. Even though the procedure name is “BIOS upgrade”, you actually upgrade all three programs (BIOS, POST and setup).

The way to update the motherboard ROM depends on the type of memory chip used in your PC. There are two types of ROM chips used in PCs, Mask-ROM (only on very old motherboards and that cannot be updated by software) and Flash-ROM (on almost all motherboards, which is able to be updated by software). In this tutorial we will cover Flash-ROM.

If you have a very old motherboard (manufactured more than 10 years ago) as shown in the figure below that uses a Mask-ROM chip BIOS upgrade is only possible by replacing the chip with a new one containing the latest BIOS version. This chip can be bought on the motherboard manufacturer's web site or at http://www.unicore.com.

DIP (Dual In-Line Package) and is used on older motherboards
You can also watch the below video for better understand the BIOS update/Upgrade.

How to Install A scanner

Posted on 05:37 by Unknown
How to Install A scanner?

Installing a scanner on newer PCs is pretty straight-forward. If the scanner is a USB device, you'll need to install the software CD that came with the scanner. These will normally be one or two disks and a few others that usually only prove to be trial software or other programs you do not need. Be wary of installing these third-party CDs, as you likely will never use them and they tend to want to take over the way media is handled on your computer.

First, unpack the scanner from the box. Make sure you have all of the attachments and especially the quick setup instructions if they were in the box. You can assemble the scanner and set if off to the side. You can plug the power cable in, but do not plug the USB cable into the computer.

Boot up the computer and load the scanner software disk into the CD ROM drive. If it does not launch automatically, you can navigate to it through My Computer and click the setup.exe file. If there are additional disks for your scanner that need to be loaded, you will be prompted for them.

Once the software has been installed, you can then attach the USB cable to the computer. Windows should find the new scanner and load the drivers for it automatically.

Troubleshooting Scanner Problems:
If your scanner had worked in the past but has stopped functioning, you can usually unplug the scanner, then go to Add / Remove Programs in the Control Panel and remove the scanning software. Then you can repeat the installation process above.
If the scanner never worked, you may have a problem with the USB port . Check another device to see if it works in that port.

How to setup a wireless printer

Posted on 02:55 by Unknown
How to setup a wireless printer
  1. The first thing you will need is a wireless computer with a wireless network card included. If your computer doesn't have a wireless network card, you can buy one at any computer store.

  2. The next thing you will need is a router. You need to make sure that both your computer's wireless network and the router are 802.11 compliant. There is 802.11b (standard) and also 802.11g (if you are printing a large amount of pages). D-Link and Linksys are two companies (of many) that make wireless routers. A wireless router will cost you around $50 - $90.

  3. Now you need to setup your wireless router to your computer. D-link software usually will help you with this process.

  4. Once your computer recognizes your wireless router you are ready to go.
The next thing you will need is a wireless printer. I have the Lexmark X4550. Is it a very good printer, copier and scanner. The setup is very easy as well.

5. Once your printer software is installed onto your computer, do the following:
XP/VISTA DIRECTIONS:
          1. Start

          2. Control panel

          3. Go to hardware and sound ----> printers (just printers in XP)

          4. On the toolbar click add a printer

          5. Click the box, Add a network, wireless or bluetooth printer.

          6. Finally your computer will search for the printer and you can then click on it and you are done.

Note: -
Make sure that your printer software is installed onto all of the computer in your wireless network. this will allow you to print from any computer in your house.

Install a new printer

Posted on 06:26 by Unknown
Install a new printer: -

When installing a new printer with the Add Printer Wizard, you can choose between adding a local printer (one that's directly cabled to your computer through one of the ports) or a network printer (a printer that's connected to your network with an Ethernet connection, just as your computer is connected to the LAN).

To install a new local printer with the Add Printer Wizard, follow these steps:
  1. Click the Start button on the Windows taskbar and then click Control Panel on the right side of the Start menu.
  2. Click the Printers and Other Hardware hyperlink if the Control Panel window is in Category View.

Otherwise, double-click the Printers and Faxes icon if the Control Panel window is in Classic View.

  1. Click the Add a Printer hyperlink in the Printers and Other Hardware window to start the Add Printer Wizard and then click the Next button, or press Enter to advance to the Local Printer or Printer Connection dialog box.
  2. Make sure that the Add Printer Wizard selects the Local Printer radio button, and the Automatically Detect and Install my Plug and Play Printer check box beneath this radio button before you click the Next button.
  3. If the wizard is unable to detect your printer in the New Printer Detection dialog box, click Next to install the printer manually.
  4. Select the port for the printer to use in the Use the Following Port drop-down list box in the Select a Printer Port dialog box and then click the Next button.
  5. Click the manufacturer and the model of the printer in the Manufacturers and Printers list boxes, respectively, of the Install Printer Software dialog box.
If you have a disk with the software for the printer, put it into your floppy or CD-ROM drive and then click the Have Disk button: Select the drive that contains this disk in the Copy Manufacturer's Files drop-down list box and then click OK.
  1. Click the Next button to advance to the Name Your Printer dialog box.
If you want, edit the name for the printer in the Printer Name text box. If you want to make the printer that you're installing the default printer that is automatically used whenever you print from Windows or from within a Windows program, leave the Yes radio button selected beneath the heading, Do you want your Windows-based programs to use this printer as the default printer?
  2. Click the Next button to advance to the Printer Sharing dialog box.
If you want to share this printer with other users on the network, click the Share Name radio button and then, if you want, edit the share name (this is the name that the other users on the network see when they go to select this printer for printing their documents) that the wizard gives the printer in the Share Name text box.
  3. To print a test page from your newly installed printer, click the Yes radio button selected beneath the heading, Would you like to print a test page? in the Print Test Page dialog box.
  4. Click the Next button to advance to the Completing the Add Printer Wizard dialog box, where you can review the settings for your new printer before you click the Finish button or press Enter to finish installing the new printer.
